Description
Embark on an unforgettable 3-day desert adventure from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga, exploring Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes — from the High Atlas Mountains to the Sahara dunes.
Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Zagora
Depart early from Marrakech, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) through the High Atlas Mountains. Visit the famous Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, then continue through Ouarzazate and the scenic Draa Valley, lined with palm groves and ancient kasbahs. Arrive in Zagora for dinner and overnight stay in a riad or auberge.
Day 2: Zagora – Tamegroute – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, travel along the Draa Valley to Tamegroute, known for its Koranic library and green pottery workshops. Continue to M’hamid El Ghizlane, the last oasis before the desert. Begin a 4×4 off-road journey (60 km) across the Sahara to the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga. Enjoy a camel ride at sunset, traditional dinner, and an evening of nomadic music around the campfire. Overnight in a desert camp under the stars.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Marrakech
Wake up early for a stunning sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast. Cross the dry Lake Iriki and the desert plains along the ancient Paris-Dakar route. Stop for lunch in Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets, before returning to Marrakech in the evening.
